The children speak

There's a safe place to go and people who care.

Paper bag art is the work of Peggy McClellan’s 4th grade class at East Hickman Intermediate School. After learning about Women Are Safe, Inc. and family violence, the class was asked to illustrate what domestic violence looks like to them. The artwork will be used to spread awareness during October’s domestic violence awareness month.

The Children Speak

Mom and Dad,
You think I'm asleep when you are fighting. But I'm not. I'm hiding under the covers and I can hear everything.
When I hear this stuff, I feel scared. And I worry. I worry about you and about our family.
What is love supposed to be?
Look what you are teaching me:
That girls are supposed to get hurt and suffer in silence as they grow up.
That boys are supposed to grow up to be violent.

Mom and Dad, I love you. Please get help!

My Daddy Is A Monster

He hurts my mommy
He hurts me too
Sometimes he hits
Sometimes he says things
that scare me and
make my mommy cry
after he leaves
Sometimes I wish he
won't come back...ever. I love my daddy.
