A Dinner To Remember
On October 18, 2007 Women Are Safe, Inc held its fifth annual Dinner to Remember awards banquet and silent auction at Caesar’s La Dolce Villa in Bon Aqua. During this event the board and staff of Women Are Safe, Inc. bring together supporters and community leaders in order to recognize the efforts put forth in our community to combat domestic violence. It is also a time to remember the stories of victims and survivors of abuse.
The guest speaker at this year’s dinner was Reverend Becca Stevens, an Episcopal Priest and founding director of Magdalene. Magdalene is a program serving women with a history of drug abuse and prostitution. Becca delivered an inspiring message of healing through love.
Women Are Safe, Inc. honored individuals who have done outstanding work against domestic violence. Neil Jobe received the Professionals Who Care award for his unfailing support in assisting clients with addictions. Betty Lampley was this year’s recipient of the Judy Kisiel Memorial Volunteer of the Year award in recognition of her participation at Shop ‘til It Stops, a “thrifty boutique” benefiting victims served by Women Are Safe, Inc. Betty has volunteered more than 500 hours since the shop opened last February. Susan Maxwell was also honored this year for her many years of service to the program as both a volunteer and a board member. On behalf of Men Against Domestic Violence, Officer Robert Dillingham of the Perry County sheriff’s department was presented the Cagley award for his continued efforts in the fight against domestic violence.
The evening concluded with a fun filled live auction conducted by Daniel Collier of Humphreys County. The 15 minute live auction combined with the silent auction was a great success! Thanks to all who contributed.
